drydenbks will consider one project submission per author/illustrator at a time unless other arrangements are agreed upon prior to the submission.

board books & picture books

  • please submit by e-mail with attachments:
  • indicate your last name and title of the work in the subject line of e-mail;
  • attach a cover letter as a Word document, which includes a one-sentence synopsis of the manuscript. (See below for content to include in cover letter);
  • attach the complete formatted text as a Word document;
  • if you are an author/illustrator and have a dummy, please attach dummy as a PDF (this is in addition to attaching the formatted Word document).
  • Format the manuscript as follows:
    1. 12 pt. font that is not Times New Roman;
    2. double-spaced;
    3. 1” margins;
    4. title 1/3 down the first page;
    5. name and contact in top left corner of first page;
    6. genre and word count in top right corner of first page;
    7. folios (page numbers) in upper or lower right corners of all pages

chapter books & novels

  • please submit by e-mail with attachments:
  • indicate your last name and the title of the work in the subject line of e-mail;
  • attach a cover letter as a Word document. (See below for content to include in cover letter);
  • attach a one-page formatted synopsis (approx. 500 words) as a Word document;
  • attach the first ten (10) formatted pages of your manuscript as a Word document.
  • Format the manuscript pages as follows:

In addition to information about your manuscript (or consultancy interests, needs, and goals) please include the following in cover letter:

  1. whether you’re a member of Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI);
  2. whether you’re a member of another writer or illustrator or affiliated organization;
  3. whether you’re agented now or ever have been;
  4. whether you’re a member of a critique group;
  5. what sort of feedback you’ve received, if any, from children’s book editors or agents in response to your work;
  6. your writing, illustration, and/or publishing goals;
  7. any other pertinent information that will assist in a full understanding of your work and your experience in the children’s book industry.

terms of Agreements, invoices, payment & other information:

drydenbks issues Terms of Agreements both parties sign before any work commences.  Scope of work, schedule, and payment structure are agreed upon in advance of signing a Terms of Agreement

drydenbks issues Invoices, payments for which are due upon receipt unless otherwise negotiated.

drydenbks accepts payments by personal or bank check to drydenbks LLC, by Venmo, by PayPal “paying for an item or service,” or by electronic funds transfer, for which drydenbks provides the necessary codes. Clients are responsible for any fees associated with PayPal service transactions (usually an additional 4%), with foreign funds transactions, with electronic funds transfers; such fees are added to Invoices accordingly.

Typically, but not always, payments to drydenbks are due in full upon signing of a Terms of Agreement or in parts, with a percentage due upon signing of Terms of Agreement,  a percentage due either before or upon client’s receipt of an Assessment, and/or a percentage due at conclusion of a consultancy/coaching arrangement. If a retainer arrangement is made, payment schedules are determined on a case-by-case basis.

drydenbks issues receipts upon request.

drydenbks provides Form W-9s upon request.

No promise or guarantee can be made that by working with drydenbks a client will find representation by an agent or acquisition by a publisher. Working with drydenbks will, however, provide clients with some information, tools, and strategies they can use to enhance their craft and advance their creative careers.

drydenbks’ cancellation policy:

Cancellation initiations, notifications, and negotiations must be made in writing by e-mail or hard copy.

  • If a client initiates cancellation of a drydenbks Project Fee arrangement after Terms of Agreement is issued and signed by client and/or by both client and drydenbks, and no monies have been paid to drydenbks under Terms of Agreement, drydenbks will terminate Terms of Agreement and notify client of the termination, after which there will be no further obligation of either party.
  • If a client initiates cancellation of a drydenbks Project Fee arrangement after Terms of Agreement is issued and signed by client and/or by both client and drydenbks, and monies have been paid to drydenbks under Terms of Agreement, drydenbks will terminate Terms of Agreement, will return to client monies paid to drydenbks minus a cancellation fee of $590.00, and notify client of the termination, after which there will be no further obligation of either party.
  •  If a client initiates cancellation of a drydenbks consultancy or coaching arrangement after Terms of Agreement is issued and signed by client and/or by both client and drydenbks, regardless of whether money has been paid to drydenbks under Terms of Agreement, drydenbks will terminate Terms of Agreement, will notify client of the termination, will negotiate with client what monies will be retained or returned by drydenbks depending upon the status of the consultancy or coaching arrangement, and will retain or return monies accordingly, after which there will be no further obligation of either party.
  • If drydenbks initiates cancellation at any time of a Project Fee arrangement made between client and drydenbks, drydenbks will notify client of the cancellation initiation, will terminate Terms of Agreement, will notify client of the termination, and will return to client any monies already paid to drydenbks under Terms of Agreement, after which there will be no further obligation of either party.
  •  If drydenbks initiates a cancellation at any time of a consultancy or coaching arrangement made between client and drydenbks, drydenbks will notify client of the cancellation initiation, will terminate Terms of Agreement, will notify client of the termination, will negotiate with client what monies will be retained or returned by drydenbks depending upon the status of the consultancy or coaching arrangement, and will return or retain monies accordingly, after which there will be no further obligation of either party.
